The Garage is a community venue situated in the heart of Norwich, offering performance spaces and a range of creative industries training in performing arts, technical skills and creative arts.
‘Chapelfield of Dreams’
The Garage, in partnership with Norwich School of Art and Design, and supported by the NELM Development Trust Ltd, has commissioned The People Speak artist partnership to produce ‘Chapelfield of Dreams’ – a mass participatory visioning event in which visitors to Chapelfield Gardens, in Norwich city centre, can get involved in shaping a hypothetical future for the park. The People Speak will work with students from Norwich City College, Earlham High School and Norwich School of Art and Design to consult the public about their ideas for Chapelfield Gardens.
The People Speak is a set of ideas, technologies and strategies developed by Saul Albert and Michael Weinkove to bring people together to have conversations and discussions in an open ended and fun way. They design events, architectures, systems and processes in which people are encouraged to express themselves, share ideas, flirt and be as creative as they can.
Between May and July 2007, members of the public will be invited to propose ideas for new features, uses and interpretations of Chapelfield Gardens, either in person during a series of vox-pops in the park or online (see www.whowantstobe.co.uk for more info), feeding into a huge digital visualisation of all the possibilities.
Come along to the final event at 4pm on Saturday 7 July in Chapelfield Gardens where the assembled crowd will play an engaging decision-making game to synthesise all the suggestions into a new idea for the park. The results will be available on-line throughout July and August: visit www.whowantstobe.co.uk and follow the links to ‘Chapelfield of Dreams’.
