Temporary commission for the East Tower, Wymondham Abbey

Wymondham Abbey, founded in 1107, is one of the most interesting of the historic churches of East Anglia with its tall towers dominating the surrounding countryside.

Artist Simon Fenoulhet has been commissioned as part of Wymondham Abbey’s celebration of the 900 years since its foundation. Simon makes installations using everyday objects and materials. He radically transforms these objects through their reorganisation and the use of light. His project for the ruined East Tower at Wymondham Abbey involves the commissioning of a new light and sound work which will interact with the sounds and activity of this important historic site turning the tower into a highly visible landmark at night.

Commissions East is the visual arts development agency for the east of England that works with artists and commissioners to create innovative visual arts projects.
